Choosing an animal
The animal faces (cat, dog, fox, pig, bear, mouse) are the quickest: a few folds and a drawn face. They also fold well from sticky notes.
Models like the crane and the flapping bird start from a bird base and take longer, but every step is drawn. If a step is hard to picture, fold it slowly and compare your paper with the next diagram.
Paper that is coloured on one side and white on the other helps: many models use the white side for a muzzle, a belly or a beard.
