The traditional lotus (water lily): fold the corners to the centre four times, then pull the flaps from the back up into three rings of petals.
Start with the white side up. Fold in half both ways, then unfold.
Fold all four corners to the centre.
Fold the four new corners to the centre again.
And once more: fold the four corners to the centre.
Turn the paper over.
Fold the four corners to the centre on this side too.
Hold the centre down with one finger. Reach behind one corner, pull the flap from the back up and around the corner so it stands up as a petal. Do the same at the other three corners.
Pull out the next four flaps from the back between the first petals the same way.
Pull out the last four flaps from the back to make the outer ring of petals.
Your lotus is done. Shape the petals gently with your fingers.
